We are in the process of developing a worker centre based in Pelican House, Bethnal Green, aimed at serving the community of Tower Hamlets. Our aim is to create a supportive environment where workers can access resources, organise, receive training, meet other workers, build power and defend their rights. A worker centre is a community-based organisation that provides support and resources to low-wage and immigrant workers. These centres often focus on campaigning for workers' rights, providing education and training, and helping workers navigate the law and regulation about work. Worker centres typically offer a variety of services, including: Organising, Campaigning, Legal Assistance, Employment Advice, Education and Training, Social Life and Community, and Support Services. Worker centres often serve as a bridge between workers and traditional Trade Unions, focusing on workers that may be underserved or excluded from union representation. They play a crucial role in empowering workers, developing political consciousness, promoting fair labour practices, and improving working conditions.
To ensure the success of this initiative, we are reaching out to local trade union branches and organisers to gather information and build alliances. Your input is invaluable to us. By sharing details about your trade union activity, expertise, and potential areas of collaboration, you will help us create a robust support network for the workers in our community. Please take a few moments to complete this survey. Your responses will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the worker centre and ensuring it meets the needs of our community effectively. Thank you for your time and contribution.
